Compatibility of C<sub>5</sub>F<sub>10</sub>O with common-used sealing materials: An experimental study

C5F10O has been widely studied as a promising environmentally friendly substitute to SF6 in power equipment. Up now, the gas insulated equipment developed still uses same sealing materials insulation However, whether these are chronically compatible with always fundamental problem that perplexes industry and academia. In this study, thermally accelerated aging experiment on four rubber contacted C5F10O/N2 was carried out. During experiment, aged rubbers were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy obtain surface morphology characteristic element composition. The samples collected periodically detected through chromatography mass spectrometry. Meanwhile, degradation of rubbers’ mechanical property is tested figure out their long-term compatibility mixtures. Surface analysis showed after thermal aging, F form C–F bonding metal fluorides ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), nitrile butadiene (NBR), chloroprene (CR), methyl vinyl silicone (VMQ), which did not exist origin samples. main gaseous decomposition products include CO, CO2, C3F6, C3F7H, concentration when coexisting significantly higher than control group. compression performance all reduced, EPDM NBR better CR VMQ. experimental results proved incompatibility between rubbers, while less deterioration properties could be more suitable for
